In 2005 Brad Ankney and his father, Ken Ankney formed Sonship Quartet with the express intent of creating a young, energetic group with a unique sound. They spent the first few years training young guys to fill each position, and in 2009 when everything began to click they followed God’s call on their lives and hit the road. In 2010 the group began to experience what it looked like to see God’s hand on their lives as exciting changes took place. Great songwriter and piano player Jim Plaugher joined the group. Jim added an unprecedented level of quality to each program. He encourages people nightly through his testimony of God’s goodness and faithfulness through his physical ailment of Parkinson’s disease. Despite a debilitating disease God still allows him to play and sing as if he were well. Later in 2010 the group added former piano player, Terry Gabbard age 21, to the roster to fill the baritone position. Terry’s high energy and youthful ness is endearing to people of all ages. The bass singer is 22 year old Taylor Ball out of Adrian, Michigan. Taylor attended the college of Adrian for a music degree in saxophone which adds a wonderful element of class to each program. In early 2011 Sonship Quartet met longtime friends and executive record producers Darrell Webb and Rod Burton and signed a recording agreement with New Hope Records. This opened the door for the group to begin their latest project produced by award winning producer Jason Webb of Nashville, Tennessee. Jason Webb won producer of the year in 2009 and has frequented the CMA awards. This album reached the fulfillment of the group’s vision to do original material with a unique sound. Jim Plaugher wrote 7 of the songs on the new album, and wrote 1 of them with his wife Teresa Plaugher. Through complicated harmonies, and utilizing the versatility of two first tenors and five vocalists the group feels they have accomplished their goal of combining the great elements of 1950’s style gospel music with a modern influence. It is truly exciting, passionate gospel music for a new generation.
